Work environment

Jalisco countryside, highlands, and agave-planted landscape around Guadalajara. The tequila country tour guide works in one of Mexico's most photogenic agricultural landscapes — blue agave fields stretching across volcanic highland terrain under an enormous Jalisco sky.

About the role

The guide to the origin of Mexico's national drink. The agave field at dawn outside Tequila municipality — rows of blue agave plants that will take eight years to mature before they are harvested by hand by jimadores whose families have done this work for generations — is a cultural landscape that produces one of the world's most recognized spirits. The guide who explains that entire ecology, economy, and human tradition is giving a tourist more than a tequila tasting; they're providing context for a living agricultural heritage.
