Work environment

Archaeological sites, colonial city streets, and Yucatán countryside around Mérida. Working in a landscape layered with 2,500 years of Maya civilization and 500 years of Spanish colonial heritage is among the most historically rich professional environments available to any Mexican tour guide.

About the role

The guide to the greatest concentration of Maya heritage in the world. The visitor who walks the Ruta Puuc — who sees Uxmal's Governor's Palace, Kabah's Codz Poop facade of 250 Chaac masks, Sayil's three-story palace — with a guide who explains the Puuc architectural style, the regional water storage systems, the political economy of the pre-Columbian Yucatán — has experienced a civilization, not a ruin.
