Work environment

Celestún Reserve, Yucatán cenotes, colonial haciendas, and Mérida markets. The nature and culture guide in Mérida works in one of Mexico's most ecologically and historically layered landscapes.

About the role

The guide to the other Yucatán. While most visitors come for the ruins, the Mérida guide who takes tourists to a hacienda where henequén rope was once produced by indentured Maya labor — who then drives them to Celestún to watch 30,000 flamingos turn a lagoon pink at sunset — who ends the day with cochinita pibil at a market stall in Mérida centro — has provided a complete Yucatán that no archaeology-only tour achieves.
