Hotel Accountant

Boutique or mid-scale hotel, Cancún or Isla Mujeres

Cancún

MXN 16,000 – 23,000 / monthFull-time, permanent

Fixed monthly

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full accounting function for a Cancún boutique or mid-scale hotel (50–150 rooms): own the monthly close, manage accounts payable and receivable, produce the hotel's P&L in the format required by ownership or the hotel management company, and maintain the SAT fiscal compliance at the standard required for a Mexican hospitality employer
  • Manage SAT CFDI compliance for all hotel revenue and expense transactions: every invoice issued and received by the hotel requires a timbrado CFDI — the hotel accountant manages the property's CFDI emission through the authorized PAC, reconciles the revenue CFDI with the PMS daily revenue report, and maintains the digital archive required by SAT for the mandatory 5-year fiscal document retention period
  • Execute the hotel's IMSS and labor cost accounting: reconcile the monthly IMSS employer quota payment with the accounting records, account for the PTU provision, the aguinaldo provision, and the vacation premium provision in the hotel's monthly accruals — these provisions represent significant balance sheet liabilities in a hotel with year-round full payroll
  • Manage accounts payable in the Quintana Roo supplier market: coordinate with the purchasing department on supplier invoice receipt, validation, CFDI verification, and payment scheduling — maintaining supplier payment terms while optimizing the hotel's cash position within ownership's working capital parameters
  • Prepare and submit the hotel's monthly IVA (VAT) declaration: Cancún's hotel market generates significant IVA liability — the hotel accountant calculates the monthly IVA position, prepares the SAT Declaración Mensual de IVA, and manages any IVA refund claims for zero-rated export revenue (hotel stays for foreign tourists)
  • Support the annual ISR (income tax) provision and the external audit process

Requirements

  • Hotel accounting experience in Mexico; Quintana Roo market experience preferred
  • SAT CFDI compliance and fiscal declaration management
  • PMS revenue accounting reconciliation (Opera, Cloudbeds, or similar)
  • IMSS employer cost accounting
  • CONTPAQi Contabilidad or Aspel COI preferred

Benefits

  • IMSS, aguinaldo, paid vacation + premium
  • Staff meals
  • Fixed monthly salary
  • Professional development toward Hotel Controller and Finance Manager

Work environment

Hotel accountant at a Cancún boutique or mid-scale hotel. Full-cycle accounting management including SAT CFDI compliance, IMSS cost accounting, IVA declaration, and monthly P&L close for an independently managed or small-group hotel in the Cancún and Riviera Maya market.

About the role

The Cancún hotel accountant who closes the January books on February 5 — who has reconciled the PMS revenue with the CFDI emission, cleared the IVA position, posted the IMSS cost for the month, accrued the aguinaldo and vacation premium provision, reconciled the supplier payments, and produced a P&L that ownership receives on the 5th of the month as requested — has delivered the financial foundation that the ownership group's investment decision-making depends on. The owner who receives an accurate, on-time monthly P&L every single month without having to ask for it has an accountant they will not lose. The January P&L that is on the desk on February 5 is the result of the February 1 through 5 accounting function that most owners never see but entirely depend on.
