HR Generalist & Cultural Training Coordinator

Boutique cultural hotel or design hotel, Oaxaca City

Oaxaca

MXN 11,000 – 16,000 / monthFull-time, permanent

Fixed monthly

Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete HR function for an Oaxaca City boutique cultural hotel (25–80 employees): as the primary HR professional for the property, manage the full employment cycle — IMSS compliance, LFT documentation, payroll coordination, recruitment, onboarding, and the cultural training programs that are the hotel's most distinctive product
  • Process IMSS Oaxaca zone compliance: manage the IMSS Oaxaca delegación alta/baja calendar, SUA payment processing, RT risk classification, Infonavit and Fonacot administration, and the documentation standards required by the STPS Oaxaca office
  • Design and deliver Oaxacan cultural hospitality training: the hotel's guest experience is inseparable from the staff's cultural knowledge — the HR coordinator designs the cultural enrichment training that equips every guest-facing team member to talk authentically about the seven moles (negro, coloradito, amarillo, estafiate, chichilo, rojo, verde), the mezcal agave varieties and palenque production process, the barro negro pottery of San Bartolo Coyotepec, and the Zapotec textile traditions of Teotitlán del Valle
  • Coordinate seasonal and Día de Muertos event workforce planning: the Día de Muertos season (late October–early November) is Oaxaca's most commercially intense period — the HR generalist manages the temporary staffing additions, the LFT-compliant temporary contracts, and the orientation for seasonal staff in this culturally profound context
  • Manage the indigenous community workforce with cultural respect: Oaxacan workers from Zapotec and Mixtec communities bring extraordinary cultural knowledge and community loyalty — the HR generalist designs the recruitment and workplace practices that honor this cultural identity and positions the hotel as an employer that genuinely respects its people's origins
  • Coordinate the Guelaguetza festival staffing plan (July): the Guelaguetza draws significant tourist volumes to Oaxaca and creates peak demand — the HR generalist manages the July staffing reinforcement within LFT parameters

Requirements

  • HR generalist experience; boutique or cultural employer preferred
  • LFT and IMSS Oaxaca zone compliance competency
  • Cultural knowledge of Oaxacan indigenous traditions, gastronomy, mezcal culture, and artisan communities

  • Intercultural respect and sensitivity in workforce management

Benefits

  • IMSS, aguinaldo, paid vacation + premium
  • Staff meals from the hotel's Oaxacan kitchen

  • Fixed monthly salary
  • Career development in Oaxaca's growing cultural tourism hospitality market

Work environment

HR generalist and cultural training coordinator at an Oaxaca City boutique cultural hotel. Full-function HR management in Mexico's most culturally distinctive hospitality market, with indigenous community workforce respect, seasonal Día de Muertos planning, and cultural training delivery that is the product at the heart of the hotel's guest experience.

About the role

The Oaxaca HR generalist who conducts the new hire cultural orientation for a Zapotec front desk coordinator from Teotitlán del Valle — who doesn't condescend, who doesn't explain Oaxacan culture to someone who grew up living it, who instead creates the space for this person to understand how the depth of their own cultural knowledge is the most valuable professional asset they bring to the role — who asks them to describe how their family's textile dyeing process works and then shows them how that knowledge becomes a 5-minute conversation that changes a guest's Oaxacan experience permanently — has done the onboarding work that converts cultural heritage into professional excellence. The hotel that employs this person isn't offering them a job to perform Oaxacan culture for guests. It's offering them a platform from which to share what they know. That difference is what the HR generalist's orientation communicates.
