Golf Course Equipment Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair the golf course's full equipment fleet: fairway mowers, triplex greens mowers, greens rollers, utility vehicles, spray rigs, aerators, and topdressers — a large Los Cabos golf course maintains a fleet of 30–60 pieces of equipment
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance for each piece of equipment per the manufacturer's service calendar: oil changes, filter replacements, belt inspection, hydraulic fluid management, and blade or reel sharpening
• Diagnose and repair breakdowns in the field: equipment failures mid-operation require rapid diagnosis and either field repair or equipment substitution from the fleet — the pace of a resort golf course schedule means that a greens mower down at 5am needs to be back operational or substituted within 90 minutes
• Manage the equipment workshop: parts inventory, tool organization, lubricant and fuel management, and work order documentation
• Reel grinding and blade sharpening: the quality of a golf course's cut depends on the precision of reel-to-bedknife contact — regular reel grinding to manufacturer specification is a core mechanic skill in this environment
• Coordinate with the superintendent on equipment procurement and capital planning

Requirements

• Small engine and diesel equipment mechanics; golf course equipment experience (Jacobsen, Toro, John Deere, Cushman) strongly preferred
• Hydraulic system troubleshooting
• Reel grinding experience for greens and fairway mowers
• Physical fitness for equipment workshop manual work
• Spanish native; English functional for equipment manual and supplier communication

About the role

The equipment mechanic who turns a diagnostic in 8 minutes on a greens triplex that stopped mid-cut on hole 14 — who identifies a hydraulic line fatigue failure, has a compatible fitting in the parts inventory, and returns the unit to the operator within 40 minutes — is the reason the second green gets mowed before the first tee time. Nobody on the golf course knows this happened. The mechanic knows, and that's sufficient.
