Irrigation Specialist — Desert Golf Course

Ultra-luxury golf course, Palmilla or Quivira corridor, Los Cabos

Los Cabos

MXN 14,000 – 20,000 / monthFull-time, permanent

Fixed monthly + housing allowance

Responsibilities

  • Manage the course's complete irrigation infrastructure: the Los Cabos resort golf courses typically run Rain Bird or Toro satellite irrigation systems with central control — program and monitor sector-by-sector scheduling based on daily evapotranspiration data, wind speed, and soil moisture sensor readings
  • Manage desalinated water quality and application: coordinate with the property's desalination plant on water TDS (total dissolved solids) readings, adjust leaching fraction to prevent salt accumulation, and manage the superintendent's sodium/chloride monitoring program
  • Conduct systematic irrigation head inspection and maintenance: the volume of water moving through a desert golf course irrigation system accelerates head wear — proactive head inspection, nozzle replacement, and coverage pattern adjustment is a continuous responsibility
  • Manage the pump station: daily pump station inspection (pressure readings, flow rates, motor temperature), maintenance coordination with the pump contractor, and emergency response to pump failures during peak summer irrigation demand
  • Coordinate with the agronomy team on drought stress response: during extreme summer heat, identify turf stress before visible discoloration and implement emergency hand-watering, targeted syringe cycles, and shade protection for the most vulnerable greens
  • Maintain a detailed irrigation activity log: sector run times, volume applied, any system anomalies, and repair records — the Los Cabos water regulatory environment requires documentation of all water use

Requirements

  • Golf course irrigation management experience in an arid or semi-arid climate
  • Rain Bird or Toro central control irrigation system management
  • Pump station operations and maintenance
  • Water chemistry understanding for high-mineral-content desalinated water management
  • English functional for communication with international equipment suppliers and agronomists

Benefits

  • IMSS, aguinaldo, paid vacation + premium
  • Housing allowance MXN 2,500/month
  • Uniform and PPE
  • Technical training through irrigation equipment manufacturer programs
  • Career advancement to Head Irrigation Technician and Superintendent level

Work environment

Irrigation systems management on an ultra-luxury Los Cabos desert golf course. High-volume, technically demanding water management operation in one of Mexico's most water-constrained and golf-celebrated environments.

About the role

The Los Cabos irrigation specialist who maintains a consistent fairway moisture profile through August — running the pump station at 3am, monitoring the satellite control dashboard for pressure drops that indicate a pipe breach, logging the previous day's ET data against the water budget — is operating at the intersection of agronomy, mechanical engineering, and water resources management. There is no version of a healthy Los Cabos golf course in summer that does not depend on this person's judgment and precision being correct every single day.
