Fairway & Rough Groundskeeper

Responsibilities

• Execute daily fairway and rough mowing on a rotating schedule: fairway height 1.8–2.5cm on Bermuda; rough height 5–8cm on natural zoysia or kikuyu edges; maintain the sharp visual contrast between zones that defines a well-presented tropical golf course
• Maintain tee boxes: daily mowing at 10–12mm, divot repair and topdressing, tee marker placement, and ball washer service
• Manage bunker maintenance: raking, edge trimming, and post-rainfall sand consolidation; rake pattern is diagonal for photography-standard presentation
• Manage ornamental vegetation between holes: cenote and jungle edge maintenance, coconut palm frond and fruit removal from play areas, and coordination with the landscaping team on flowering plant cycles
• Support the irrigation crew with fairway head inspection and hand-watering of stress areas during dry season
• Operate and maintain fairway mowing equipment: daily fuel, oil, and blade condition inspection; report any mechanical issues to the equipment technician immediately

Requirements

• Golf course grounds maintenance experience; fairway mowing experience required
• Tropical vegetation management — familiarity with cenote-adjacent work zones
• Physical outdoor fitness in humid Riviera Maya climate
• Equipment operation and basic maintenance
• Spanish native

Fairway and rough maintenance crew on a boutique resort golf course in the Playa del Carmen / Riviera Maya corridor. Daily tropical turf operations in an ecologically sensitive karst environment.

About the role

The groundskeeper finishing the last fairway mow at 7am — the dew still on the grass, the pattern clean in the low morning sun, the monkeys audible in the jungle edge 40 meters from the fairway — is experiencing the particular quality of early morning physical outdoor work that is one of golf course maintenance's unspoken professional rewards. The course doesn't get quieter or more beautiful than 6:45am before the first tee time.
