Greens Crew — Turf Specialist

International resort golf course, Riviera Maya corridor

Playa del Carmen

MXN 9,500 – 13,000 / monthFull-time, permanent

Fixed monthly

Responsibilities

  • Maintain ultradwarf Bermuda or Paspalum greens to tournament-level specification: daily mowing at 2.5–3.5mm, rolling, cup-cutting, and stimpmeter speed verification; Riviera Maya resort courses target consistent 11.0–12.0 stimpmeter readings across all 18 greens
  • Execute the greens' agronomic calendar: sand topdressing, verti-cut grooming, solid and hollow tine aeration on the superintendent's schedule; each operation requires both technical precision and a communication to the golf operations team for the temporary disruption to guest play
  • Apply SEMARNAT-compliant turf inputs: the Riviera Maya's groundwater protection zone restricts conventional pesticide use near cenotes — the maintenance crew applies IPM programs using approved fungicides, bactericides, and biological controls that meet the zone's regulatory requirements
  • Manage the irrigation micro-management for greens: Riviera Maya courses experience both extended dry season (November–May) and intense wet season (June–October) within the same 12-month agronomic calendar; the greens crew adjusts hand watering, syringing, and automated cycle timing monthly
  • Support the drainage management on a karst limestone foundation: the porous karst topography drains rapidly after heavy rainfall but can create localized subsidence — monitoring for and reporting settling or sinkholes is a safety-critical responsibility
  • Assist with course setup for competition and VIP events: pin placement to prescribed difficulty sequence, tee marker placement, course measuring, and pace-of-play preparation for resort tournaments

Requirements

  • Golf greens maintenance experience; ultradwarf Bermuda or Paspalum turf species knowledge strongly preferred
  • SEMARNAT groundwater protection zone compliance awareness
  • Physical fitness for early morning outdoor greens work
  • Precision equipment operation — triplex greens mowers and greens rollers
  • Spanish native; English functional for resort coordinator communication

Benefits

  • IMSS, aguinaldo, paid vacation + premium
  • Uniform and PPE provided
  • Golf access during non-operational hours
  • Agronomic training through equipment supplier and superintendent mentorship programs

Work environment

Greens crew maintenance on a world-class Riviera Maya resort golf course. Tournament-standard green management in a SEMARNAT ecological protection zone environment.

About the role

The Riviera Maya greens crew member who aerates in September — who core-pulls 54 greens in three days with the crew during the low-season disruption window, backfills with the superintendent's sand mix, and two weeks later watches the greens recover to the firmest and truest they'll be all year — is doing the operation that defines whether a luxury golf course maintains its reputation into the next high season. The guest who three-putts a recovered September green in November doesn't know what went into its surface that week. That's the point.
