Golf Course Groundskeeper

Responsibilities

• Maintain fairways, rough, and tees on a subtropical 18-hole resort course: Bermuda or Paspalum fairways at 1.8–2.2cm height; rough management requires more frequent cutting in rainy season when growth rates increase significantly
• Execute greens maintenance program: daily mowing at 3.5–4.5mm, cup placement per pin sheet, surface cleaning, and raking collar areas; the high humidity of PVR's rainy season increases fungal disease pressure on greens requiring more vigilant monitoring
• Manage tropical ornamental vegetation integration with course layout: PVR courses incorporate native palms, bougainvillea, and jungle-edge vegetation that require regular trimming for play clearance while preserving the visual character
• Operate bunker maintenance: daily raking, edge trimming, and especially post-tropical-rainfall sand management — heavy rain events compact and displace bunker sand requiring immediate correction before play resumes
• Monitor and report turf stress indicators to the superintendent: fungal activity (brown patch, dollar spot) is a constant wet-season risk on subtropical courses; early identification and communication prevents widespread damage
• Assist with post-storm course recovery: the July–October tropical storm season occasionally brings hurricane-influenced rainfall events that temporarily impact the course — efficient post-event cleanup and recovery operations are part of the seasonal work calendar

Requirements

• Golf course maintenance experience; subtropical turf knowledge preferred
• Physical fitness for outdoor work in Puerto Vallarta's humid wet-season climate
• Equipment operation — fairway mowers and greens mowers
• Fungal disease identification awareness for subtropical turf
• Spanish native

About the role

The PVR groundskeeper who finishes the last fairway mow at 6:45am in November — the Sierra Madre still in shadow behind the course, Banderas Bay visible from holes 5, 8, and 16, the course quiet and dew-fresh before a single golfer has loaded a bag — is in a golf course setting that the international guest who eventually stands on hole 8 will photograph and post. The crew that produced that morning saw it first, before anyone else arrived.
