Responsibilities
- Manage the course irrigation system across both wet and dry seasons: the PVR agronomic calendar requires near-zero irrigation activation during June–October wet season and maximum system utilization during the November–May dry season — programming transitions must be gradual to avoid stress events
- Conduct irrigation head maintenance and systematic inspection: head wear, spray pattern adjustment, and proactive nozzle replacement on the superintendent's biannual inspection schedule
- Monitor the water supply source: Marina Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta courses draw from municipal water and private wells — monitor supply pressure, water quality, and coordinate with the property maintenance team on pump system health
- Manage the rainy season irrigation shutdown: monitoring rainfall accumulation against the ET model and adjusting the automated system to avoid over-watering that promotes fungal activity in PVR's humid conditions
- Operate and maintain irrigation control hardware: central control unit programming, satellite station diagnostics, and wire fault identification and repair
- Support the equipment mechanic team with utility vehicle operation and minor mechanical tasks
Requirements
- Golf course or commercial irrigation system experience
- Irrigation control system programming (Rain Bird preferred)
- Electrical troubleshooting for irrigation wire faults
- Physical fitness for outdoor work in PVR's subtropical climate range
- Spanish native; English functional

About the role
The PVR irrigation technician who manages the system transition from dry-season maximum demand to wet-season dormancy — who reads the rainfall accumulation against the ET calendar and adjusts the program sector by sector over a three-week period rather than switching it off all at once — is preventing the soil moisture swing events that cause disease pressure in the post-wet-season recovery. The superintendent who hands off the system to this person in May and finds healthy fairways in October trusts a specific skill executed over six months that's very hard to see from the outside.
