Golf Course Groundskeeper

Responsibilities

• Maintain Bermuda or Kikuyu fairways and rough on the San Miguel de Allende golf course at 1,870m: the high-altitude temperate climate supports consistent turf growth through spring and summer, with Bermuda entering partial dormancy during the cool November–February nights when temperatures occasionally drop to 5°C or below
• Execute daily greens maintenance: Bermuda or ultradwarf Bermuda at 3.5–4.5mm; the international membership's expectations for green speed and surface quality are specific — consistent daily maintenance, cup placement rotation, and surface repair are non-negotiable
• Manage irrigation with the highland water supply: the Guanajuato plateau water is mineral-rich and alkaline; the irrigation program must include leaching cycles to prevent sodium accumulation in the root zone over the dry season
• Maintain the course's integration with the SMA landscape: the course's visual context includes colonial architecture, volcanic rock walls, and highland vegetation; the ornamental edges and transitions between turf and native scrub are part of the course's character and require careful maintenance
• Operate and service the course's smaller equipment fleet: a smaller course runs a proportionally smaller equipment fleet, which means each groundskeeper operates a broader range of equipment than on a large resort operation
• Support the club's member events calendar: the SMA golf club hosts member tournaments and social events where course setup and presentation are managed by the grounds crew

Requirements

• Golf course maintenance experience
• High-altitude turf management awareness; cool-season temperament for Bermuda management
• Equipment operation
• Spanish native; English functional for bilingual membership communication
• Commitment to high-quality detail work in a boutique club environment
