Guest Services & ButlerVilla Host — Colonial Boutique Hotel
Boutique luxury hotel, San Miguel de Allende Centro Histórico
San Miguel de Allende
Fixed monthly + service gratuity
Responsibilities
- Serve as villa or suite host for an assigned cluster at a SMA boutique luxury property: the scale of SMA properties is intimate — 12–30 rooms — and the host relationship with the guest is correspondingly personal, with direct responsibility for a small number of guests across the stay
- Provide cultural orientation and experience curation with genuine depth: the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel at dawn before the tourist groups arrive, the specific workshop where the barro negro potter works on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the wine bodega in Cañada de la Virgen that does small-group tastings without appointment — the villa host who provides this knowledge from genuine local experience is providing something that no travel application or concierge list can replicate
- Manage the cobblestone access challenge: SMA's Centro Histórico has cobblestone streets that create challenges for luggage transport, mobility-assisted guests, and vehicle access — the villa host anticipates and manages these logistics for the guest without drawing attention to the limitation
- Coordinate private in-villa or rooftop dining: SMA boutique hotels frequently have rooftop terraces with views over the Centro Histórico — the villa host stages private dinners on these terraces with local culinary teams, including Guanajuato wine pairing from the Bajío wine country
- Assist with destination wedding coordination for villa guests arriving as part of a wedding party: SMA is one of Mexico's most popular destination wedding locations — the villa host manages the guest's event schedule, transportation coordination, and any special requirements during multi-day wedding events
- Maintain the property's artisanal aesthetic: SMA boutique hotels invest in Talavera pottery, Otomi textiles, handblown glass, and local artisan amenity products — the villa host presents and maintains these elements with knowledge of their origin and significance
Requirements
- Hospitality service experience; boutique hotel or villa host experience preferred
- English and Spanish bilingual — the SMA market is heavily English-speaking expat and North American
- Genuine SMA local knowledge: art scene, culinary landscape, craft producers, cultural calendar (Día de los Muertos, Festival de Cine, Semana Santa)
- Cultural interpreter personality — genuine curiosity and the ability to make a guest care about what they are seeing
- Destination wedding awareness for coordination support during event weeks
Benefits
- IMSS, aguinaldo, paid vacation + premium
- Staff meals
- Service gratuity from the North American and European international market
- Integration into SMA's unique cultural and artisan community through the property's local partnerships
- Career development in one of Mexico's most celebrated boutique luxury markets
Work environment
Villa host at a San Miguel de Allende boutique luxury hotel. Cultural experience curation, personal guest service, and destination wedding support in Mexico's most internationally celebrated colonial highland town.
About the role
The SMA villa host who walks a guest to the Parroquia at 6:45am — before the tour buses arrive, when the plaza is still sweeping and the light on the pink stone facade is at its most dramatic — and who explains without a lecture that the church was redesigned in the 19th century by Zeferino Gutiérrez, a self-taught indigenous architect who may never have left Guanajuato and who designed the Gothic facade from postcards of European churches — has just given the guest a story about that building that makes the photographs they took of it mean something completely different. That's the SMA villa host's highest-value product.
