Tropical Horticulturist — Boutique Hotel

Responsibilities

• Design-maintain curated tropical garden to ownership or designer specification: heliconias, gingers, anthuriums, philodendrons, tropical palms
• Manage soil health in sandy coastal substrates — regular organic matter amendment and pH monitoring
• Propagate plants in-house: cuttings, air layering, division of tropical species to reduce plant purchase costs
• Manage shading systems and microclimates for shade-requiring tropicals beneath hotel structures
• Coordinate with interior design team on potted plant rotation: fresh indoor tropicals in lobby and guest areas
• Maintain guest-visible garden paths and planting borders to boutique hotel aesthetic standard

Requirements

• Tropical horticulture knowledge — species identification and care for Caribbean tropical plants
• Plant propagation skills (cuttings, air layers, divisions)
• Soil amendment and pH management in sandy coastal soils
• Eye for aesthetic plant arrangement
