Grounds Supervisor — Large Resort Complex

Responsibilities

• Supervise and schedule a grounds team of 5–10 gardeners, irrigation technicians, and landscaping laborers across all resort garden zones
• Develop and manage weekly and monthly landscape maintenance schedules: coordinate zone rotations to ensure every area meets resort presentation standards consistently
• Lead hurricane preparation and recovery operations: direct the team through pre-storm securing, post-storm assessment, and landscape restoration — key operational competency in the Hotel Zone
• Manage chemical input program to hotel environmental compliance standards: fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide procurement, storage, application scheduling, and STPS safety compliance
• Conduct soil health monitoring: pH testing, amendment applications, root system assessments for mature palms and specimen trees
• Prepare monthly landscape condition reports for hotel general manager or director of operations
• Manage departmental budget: track spending versus allocation for plants, chemicals, tools, and contracted services

Requirements

• 5+ years hotel or resort landscaping, minimum 2 years team supervision
• Tropical plant knowledge for Quintana Roo Caribbean coastal environment
• Hurricane preparation and recovery operations experience
• Budget management and reporting for hotel department level
• STPS chemical safety knowledge for grounds department management

About the role

The Grounds Supervisor in a large Cancún resort is the person who gets called at 6am the morning after a tropical storm and who has to assess, prioritize, and direct the team recovery operation before the first guests come down for breakfast. That crisis management ability is built on years of understanding how this specific coastal environment works — which damage is cosmetic, which is structural, which palm can be saved and which needs to be removed. Knowing that in the field, in the dark before sunrise, is what the supervisor's experience is for.
