Grounds & Ecology Supervisor — Eco-Luxury Hotel

Responsibilities

• Lead eco-hotel grounds team: manage 2–4 gardeners and eco-area caretakers in maintenance of natural-style landscape, cenote access areas, and cultivated garden zones
• Manage property organic input program: source, procure, and schedule application of approved organic fertilizers and pest control — maintain product documentation for certification audits
• Lead native plant program: coordinate nursery propagation of native Quintana Roo species; track planting locations, species, and survival rates for certification reporting
• Cenote and natural water feature management: oversee vegetation management at cenote margins, ensure no chemical use within regulation zones, coordinate any visitor infrastructure maintenance at cenote access
• Prepare and maintain eco-certification documentation for landscape operations: Rainforest Alliance, Distintivo S, or property-specific certifications require landscape-specific environmental records
• Manage compost and organic waste system: coordinate kitchen-to-garden organic waste composting for garden soil enrichment — common at Tulum properties as a sustainability feature
• Brief and train grounds team on all environmental protocols; manage any new team member onboarding for ecological compliance

Requirements

• 4+ years eco-lodge or eco-resort landscape management experience
• Native plant propagation and management knowledge
• Organic horticulture and IPM implementation
• Eco-certification documentation and audit preparation
• SEMARNAT zona federal marítima compliance knowledge

The Grounds Supervisor in a Tulum eco-luxury property carries a responsibility that other hotel landscape managers don't — the legal and ecological obligation to manage the land within a biosphere buffer zone correctly. The native plant nursery, the compost system, the cenote-zone protocol records — these are not marketing documents, they're compliance requirements.
