General Maintenance Technician

Responsibilities

• Maintain all systems across a colonial boutique property: plumbing, electrical, mini-split AC, furniture, fixtures
• Care for heritage architectural elements: stone carvings, wooden doors and beams, Oaxacan green cantera stone finishes, traditional tile floors
• Manage seasonal drainage maintenance — Oaxaca's rainy season (May–October) loads rooftop drains and colonial gutters significantly
• Maintain rooftop terrace and mezcal bar area: seating, lighting, drainage, bar equipment
• Handle dust-season maintenance — dry season (November–April) requires regular filter cleaning and surface care
• Coordinate with artisan restoration craftspeople for specialized heritage repairs beyond in-house capacity

Requirements

• Maintenance experience; colonial or heritage building background preferred
• Multi-trade competency appropriate to a small-team environment
• Comfort working around and with valuable architectural elements — Oaxacan green cantera and colonial woodwork require specific repair approaches
• Reliable and self-directed — boutique properties rely heavily on the individual technician's judgment

About the role

In Oaxaca City, the building is the hotel. The 18th-century walls, the green cantera archways, the central courtyard with its colonial fountain — these are what the guest booked. The maintenance technician who protects those elements, who fixes what needs fixing without ever diminishing what makes the building beautiful, is doing work that matters in a way that no all-inclusive resort maintenance job ever quite replicates.
