Painter & Carpenter — Heritage & Colonial Properties

Responsibilities

• Maintain period-appropriate paint finishes in colonial and art deco boutique properties: lime-based paints, period colors, matching original plaster profile on moldings and cornices
• Restore original wooden elements: antique-style window frames, period doors, parquet floors, decorative staircase woodwork
• Repair post-seismic plaster damage in old buildings where wall cracks after tremors are more significant than in modern construction
• Work with cantera stone elements where applicable: joint maintenance, surface cleaning, minor chip repair with matching material
• Coordinate with INAH-aware restoration specialists for any work touching protected architectural elements
• Source period-appropriate materials: lime paint, oil-based period finishes, traditional wood stains — not always available at standard building supply outlets

Requirements

• Painting and carpentry experience in colonial or heritage buildings — essential
• Lime paint and traditional finish technique knowledge
• Post-seismic repair competency in old masonry buildings
• Material sourcing knowledge for period-appropriate finishes

About the role

Working in a Condesa art deco building from 1935 is painting as conservation. The original plaster molding on that ceiling has survived 90 years, two major earthquakes, and three rounds of renovation — the painter who repairs a post-tremor crack in it without damaging what survived is continuing a process of care that spans the building's entire life. That continuity is what heritage maintenance means.
