Painter & Carpenter — Eco & Boutique Hotels

Responsibilities

• Maintain paint and carpentry for boutique eco properties using natural and sustainable materials: lime-based paint systems, natural pigments, untreated hardwood feature elements
• Repair bamboo and wooden structural elements in open-air eco-property construction
• Apply and maintain natural wood oils and waxes on teak and hardwood outdoor furniture — eco properties often avoid synthetic varnishes
• Work with natural plasters: lime stucco, clay plaster, and traditional masonry finishes used in eco hotel design aesthetic
• Handle bespoke carpentry repairs unique to each eco property's custom-built interior elements
• Source and recommend sustainable finish products consistent with eco-certification requirements

Requirements

• Painting and carpentry experience; natural material and eco-property background preferred
• Knowledge of lime paint, natural plasters, natural oil wood finishing
• Interest in sustainable materials and methods
• Adaptive and creative — eco property finishes are often non-standard

About the role

Working with lime paint and natural plasters in a Riviera Maya eco hotel is painting as craft tradition. Lime paint — the technique that whitewashed Mediterranean and colonial Mexican buildings for 500 years — requires different application technique, different timing, and different knowledge than synthetic paint systems. The painter who knows both worlds, who can work to eco standards when required and resort standards when required, is genuinely versatile.
