Hotel Gift Shop & Boutique Associate

Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist guests in hotel gift shop or boutique — product orientation, recommendations, cultural context
• Sell Mexican artisan products — jewelry, Talavera, hand-woven textiles, amber from Chiapas, Yucatecan artisan items
• Provide cultural product context — guests in Playa's boutique hotels have higher expectations for authenticity information than mass resort shoppers
• Process sales and handle multi-currency transactions — Playa's European guests often arrive with euros or US dollars
• Maintain product display and inventory
• Communicate product provenance accurately — Playa's sophisticated international market reacts negatively to inaccurate artisan claims

Requirements

• Previous retail or service experience preferred
• English proficiency — essential; French, Italian, or Portuguese an advantage in Playa's European market
• Genuine knowledge of or enthusiasm for Mexican artisan culture
• Professional presentation and warm sales personality
• Accurate transaction handling
