Dive Instructor / Divemaster — Discovery & Kids Programs

Responsibilities

• Conduct PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) resort courses for first-time divers: the DSD is a 1-hour pool introduction followed by a guided shallow ocean dive — the entry-level product for resort guests who want to try scuba without a full certification course
• Lead Bubblemaker programs for children 8–10 years old: PADI Bubblemaker and Seal Team programs introduce young children to scuba in the pool environment with specific child-adapted instruction techniques
• Facilitate Junior Open Water Diver certification courses for participants aged 10–15: junior certification requires age-adapted teaching approach and depth limit adjustments per PADI junior standards
• Manage the resort's non-certified guest dive experience: brief guests on what to expect, assess any health contraindications for diving, and make the first dive experience sufficiently positive that guests leave interested in further certification
• Conduct snorkeling guides for guests who are not interested in scuba: reef snorkeling tours are part of the dive school's activity portfolio and the DM/Instructor guides these when not conducting scuba programs
• Maintain DSD and Bubblemaker equipment in child-appropriate sizing

Requirements

• PADI Divemaster minimum; Open Water Instructor preferred for higher-volume operations
• Child-adapted instruction experience or strong natural aptitude
• Patient, encouraging personality for first-time adult and junior student instruction
• English and Spanish bilingual
• Physical fitness for repeated daily pool and shallow ocean diving

Resort dive school in the Riviera Maya. Entry-level and junior diver programs at a beachfront hotel with access to the Mesoamerican Reef system.

About the role

The instructor who gets a 10-year-old's first underwater bubbles on video, hands the phone back to the parents, and watches a child who was terrified of putting their face underwater at 10am describe their favorite fish at 12pm, is doing the thing that built the global diving community from the ground up: creating divers who will spend the rest of their lives wanting more.
