Water Sports & MarineKiteboard Instructor & SUP Guide
Kiteboarding school or water sports center, Laguna Nichupté, Cancún
Cancún
Fixed monthly + private lesson gratuity
Responsibilities
- Conduct kiteboarding lessons from beginner body dragging through intermediate independent riding: Cancún's consistent northeast trade wind makes Laguna Nichupté's protected lagoon water one of Mexico's best kiteboarding learning environments
- Lead SUP yoga and guided paddleboard tours on the lagoon: early morning flat-water paddleboard tours and SUP yoga sessions have developed a growing market among Hotel Zone resort guests — the guide leads group or private sessions
- Conduct safety assessment for all lesson participants: kite size selection based on wind speed, student weight, and skill level; IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) safety standards; rescue protocols for kite and student emergency
- Teach body board handling and kite control on the beach before water entry: the kite flying phase, the body dragging, and the board riding phase are introduced sequentially — rushing students to the board before they have kite control is the most common beginner kiteboarding injury cause
- Maintain kite equipment: line inspection, bladder inflation check, leading edge and strut integrity assessment before every session
- Manage student progress records and advance booking for lesson series
Requirements
- IKO Instructor certification Level 1 or 2
- SEMAR or local maritime authority watercraft certification for lesson boat
- Lifeguard certification

- Kiteboarding equipment access for personal session development
- IKO membership and annual certification maintenance support
- Career track toward senior IKO instructor and school management
Work environment
Kiteboarding instruction and SUP tours on Cancún's Laguna Nichupté. Protected lagoon environment with consistent Caribbean trade winds for one of Mexico's most active kiteboarding instruction markets.
About the role
The kiteboarding instructor who watches a student who couldn't control a kite on Monday stand up on their board and ride 30 meters of clean water on Friday — who has been patient through every frustrating afternoon when the kite went down and the student went with it — has delivered what every kite instructor exists to deliver. The moment a student goes from "I can't do this" to "I can't stop doing this" is the Friday afternoon the instructor will remember years after the student's name has faded.
