Responsibilities

  • Lead water sports activities at a Playa del Carmen beach club: paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkeling tours to the reef, banana boat, and non-motorized beach equipment rental
  • Conduct snorkeling reef tours from the beach club: the Playa del Carmen beach accesses the offshore section of the Mesoamerican Reef at depths suitable for snorkeling with 10–15 minutes' swim from the beach — the guide leads, identifies marine life, and manages group safety
  • Operate catamaran half-day snorkel tours to the Cozumel reef from the beach club's catamaran dock
  • Lead morning paddleboard sessions and sunset kayak tours: these low-intensity, high-atmosphere activities generate consistent guest satisfaction in the beach club environment
  • Assist with beach club equipment maintenance: rinse, inspect, and store equipment after each day's use
  • Maintain reef-safe product enforcement at all water entry points

  • Snorkeling guide and reef marine life identification knowledge

Work environment

Beach club water sports guide in Playa del Carmen. Non-motorized and catamaran activities in the Caribbean with a diverse international tourist demographic.

About the role

The beach club guide who paddles a sunrise SUP group out 200 meters from the shore before the sun clears the horizon — 8 people floating in silence on flat Caribbean water, watching the sky turn orange — is providing something that a parasailing operation cannot provide. The tonal range of the Playa water sports market, from the quiet to the adrenaline-driven, is what makes it more interesting to work in than the pure volume operations.
