Weddings & EventsEvents Sales Executive — Group & Incentive Travel
Mid-scale to large resort, Playa del Carmen Riviera Maya corridor
Playa del Carmen
Base + per-contract commission + semi-annual group revenue bonus
Responsibilities
- Sell group accommodation blocks, meeting room packages, and incentive travel programs to travel agencies, corporations, and meeting planners targeting the Riviera Maya
- Manage the full group sales cycle from RFP response through contract: respond to group accommodation and event inquiries within 4 hours of receipt (industry standard), conduct site inspections for meeting planner familiarization, produce group proposals, and negotiate final contract terms
- Develop proactive group sales through outbound activity: attend MICE trade shows (IBTM Americas, meetings industry events in Mexico City and the US), develop meeting planner relationships, and generate leads rather than waiting for inbound inquiries
- Coordinate with the property's revenue management team on group room block pricing: the events salesperson's room block pricing must respect the property's revenue management strategy while remaining competitive for group business
- Manage pick-up tracking for confirmed group room blocks: rooms contracted but not picked up create financial exposure — the salesperson monitors pick-up against committed blocks and communicates attrition risk to revenue management
- Build and maintain a travel agency commission payment record: group business from travel agencies requires accurate commission processing; errors damage the agency relationship
Requirements
- Group or MICE sales experience in the hotel or resort industry
- RFP response and group proposal development
- Proactive trade show and meeting planner relationship development
- Room block pick-up and attrition management
- English and Spanish bilingual for domestic and international group clients

Work environment
Group and incentive travel sales at a Riviera Maya resort. Proactive commercial development role targeting the Mexican and North American group events market.
About the role
The group salesperson who flew to Mexico City for a day, took a meeting planner to lunch, walked them through the property via a 5-minute video, and left them a site inspection invitation — then received their groups contract 3 months later — spent MXN 2,000 to generate MXN 150,000 in contracted group revenue. That's the return on relationship investment that makes proactive group sales commercially justified, even when it feels like the activity happened months before the revenue showed up.
