Wedding & Cultural Events Coordinator — Boutique & Artisanal Venue

Responsibilities

• Coordinate weddings and cultural celebrations at Oaxaca City's boutique hotels, rooftop venues, and cultural spaces: the coordinator manages a small number of high-concept events per month — each is a creative exercise as much as a logistics operation
• Develop and maintain the Oaxacan artisanal vendor network: Teotitlán del Valle textile artists for ceremony runners and table décor, Coyotepec barro negro ceramicists for table settings, Oaxacan mezcal producers for welcome and toast service, and local traditional cuisine specialists for Oaxacan banquet menus featuring mole negro, amarillo, and coloradito
• Guide couples through authentic Oaxacan event element integration: a coordinator who knows which mezcal producer in Etla offers a bespoke tasting service, which artisan family weaves the most spectacular ceremony aisle runner, and which traditional cuisine family caters the most authentic Oaxacan banquet is providing irreplaceable cultural access
• Navigate Oaxacan noise ordinance and Centro Histórico event restrictions: Oaxaca City's colonial center has specific sound amplification restrictions and event curfew requirements that vary by zone — the coordinator maintains current knowledge of applicable restrictions for each venue
• Manage Día de Muertos event calendar: Oaxaca's Día de Muertos (late October–early November) is one of the most extraordinary cultural events in the world, and the coordinator may be involved in private events and celebrations during this period that require cultural sensitivity and logistical coordination specific to the tradition
• Coordinate with Oaxacan cuisine specialists on menus that showcase the regional food culture: mole preparation timelines, traditional equipment requirements, and local ingredient sourcing schedules must be factored into catering planning

Requirements

• Event coordination experience; Oaxacan cultural and artisanal vendor familiarity preferred
• Genuine personal engagement with Oaxacan culture, cuisine, and artisanal tradition — the coordinator who presents this culture without understanding it is at a commercial disadvantage in a market where clients are specifically seeking authenticity
• Spanish native; English professional fluency for international destination wedding clients
• Knowledge of Oaxacan boutique venue landscape and its specific access and capacity constraints
• Sensitivity and respect for Día de Muertos and other cultural traditions that may intersect with event programming
